Rebekah Turns 15

Rebekah turned 15 and received the Christus Award for seminary. This means that she learned all 100 scripture masteries in one year! We are very proud of her for getting up every morning to do this and making the commitment to learn all 100.

For her birthday, she went with me (mom) to see the National Tour of Wicked at the Durham Performing Arts Center. It was an amazing show. Then on her actual birthday, she got a card game from Katherine and a Taylor Swift CD from Kimberly. She also got a strawberry daquari - virgin of course - and was nice enough to share with her sisters. For her cake, she got a cheesecake swirl brownie.

Kimberly turned 18

Kimberly has had a big couple of months. She turned 18 in April, got her Personal Progress Award, Graduated seminary, and got a summer camp job! Her big birthday gift was a camera and a necklace. The girls got her PJ pants and a shirt. She had strawberry pie as her "cake".

We are very proud of her seminary graduation. Going to class at 6:30 am for 4 years is really an accomplishment. This year, she even won the Christus Award - a special award from our stake for learning all 100 scripture masteries in one year!

Her final project for her personal progress was to make a quilt. She had to put in at least 10 hours but probably put in closer to 50! The finished product was well worth it.

And finally, Kimberly will be a camp counselor for Camp Graham GS camp from June 1 to Aug 1. She is very excited to be at camp and is looking forward to her summer.

Katherine turned 12

Katherine turned twelve and moved into Young Women's at church. She is loving it and can't wait to go to YW camp later this month. For her birthday she got Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader for the Wii from Kimberly and Rebekah, and a pair of capris and some lanyard from Keith and I. We also fixed up the tree house out back.

Coming Soon: Romeo and Juliet!

Kimberly and Rebekah (yes, I did say Kimberly, too) auditioned for a part in Romeo and Juliet for Temple Theatre's Winter Conservatory program and both got parts. They've been busy rehearsing all month and will have performances the last weekend of Feb and the first weekend of March. If you live around here, you really won't want to miss it!

Christmas 2009

Christmas was very busy this year with the play for the two older girls and the moving for the family. Add to that some repair work in the house and we had trouble getting in the Christmas spirit until about the 15th of December!

We had a wonderful Christmas once we settled in. As usual, we set up our designer tree made even more special this year since Georgia, the original owner of the tree, died this year after a long battle with colo-rectal cancer.

My village has grown so much that we've had to buy two six-foot tables to house them on! (Speaking of village, I got many new pieces this year and love them all! I also got some pieces for my large set, including one from Matthew straight from Germany!)

Our Christmas tree was a bit different this year. We typically get a white pine, but the droughts over the past couple of summers meant that there were no big trees to be had. So, we went with a frazier fir. It turned out to be quite beautiful!

Keith's sister, Betty Ann, came by about 10 days before Christmas. She was helping us pick a light fixture for our dining room. She was our first official Christmas visitor!

Christmas morning was full of fun and surprises. We ate a huge breakfast and got to talk with Matthew on the phone for over an hour! That afternoon, Keith took me to the Pinehurst Hotel for their incredible Christmas buffet. I ate food that I couldn't pronounce - and you should have seen the dessert tables!

Christmas evening we got to spend some wonderful time with Kyle, Faith, Gena, and Jaxson. It was fun being with them and made Christmas even more special.

And finally, on Sunday, we got to spend some time with Kim. We were very happy that she could come by and be part of our Christmas cheer.

Rebekah Was In A Christmas Carol - Kimberly Was Spot Op

The girls were super busy during the months of Nov and Dec preparing for and participating in Temple Theatre's "A Christmas Carol." Rebekah was part of the ensemble - she's the one with the long curly blond wig! Kimberly was the spotlight operator. Both girls did a great job and the play was absolutely fantastic. It was written as a musical specifically for Temple and one of the songs has been recorded by an up and coming singer in Greensboro. It has been fun hearing it on the radio! This is going to be a yearly tradition for the theater, so if you didn't see it this year, you should plan to go next year!
