Gena Started School!

Gena, Keith's granddaughter, started Kindergarten this year and from everything we hear, loves it! In fact, after the first day, she asked Faith, "Can I go again tomorrow?"

Keith and Teri went school supply shopping for Gena while in Florida. What would seem like a simple task, is truly monumental! With nothing but homeschooling as experience, Teri was surprised at the difficulty of filling the list! However, we were very glad to help out and be part of this "first" with Gena.

Saying Goodbye

The children lost their "Mama" on Friday, August 12th after a very long illness. They will certainly miss her.

Catherine Guin was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Southern Pines, to the late John Dennis and Vera Bunch Sitterson. She was the valedictorian of the Southern Pines High School Class of 1949. She received an undergraduate degree from Women’s College of Greensboro (now UNCG) and a master’s degree in early childhood education from East Carolina University. She married Jamie W. Guin on Jan. 24, 1953.

A lifelong teacher, she was instrumental in creating kindergartens in Greensboro, Charlotte, Southern Pines and Aberdeen. She retired from teaching after serving as director of Open Door Day Care in Pinehurst.

Surviving are her husband, Jamie Guin; sons, Jamie W. Guin Jr. and his wife, Kate, of Wise, Va., John Robert Guin of Carthage, and Daniel Dennis Guin and his wife, Jane of Boca Raton, Fla.; a brother, John Sitterson and his wife, Marie, of Arlington, Va.; six grandchildren, Christopher, Mathew, Kimberly, Rebekah, Katherine and Maxwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

An Ocean Surprise

Surprise Visit To Hilton Head Posted by Picasa

Keith and I went to Orlando Florida to visit with Kyle. Faith and the children were in Boston, so we missed seeing them but got to visit quite a bit with Kyle despite his hectic work schedule. After getting a late start for home on Wednesday, Keith made surprise reservations at Hilton Head for an overnight stay - he is great at finding good deals! We were across the street from the ocean and had a pool. I have been wanting to see the ocean for some time and he was such a sweetheart and arranged it for me. After chatting with Meg on the HOHM's site since October, it was a real thrill to finally meet her and her family! Meg is as wonderful in person as she is online and her children are truly treasures. To see more photos from my visit to see Meg, click here.
